Fifth and sixth class got a special treat on Friday as Conor from Volleyball Ireland introduced us to a new game called Spike Volleyball. We all enjoyed learning new skills including the spike, the dig, and the volley. We all thoroughly enjoyed a game using our new skills.

As part of our maths week activities, children from 1st to 6th class have all been given usernames and passwords for SUMDOG. This is a really fun maths games website for children. Over the next couple of weeks, the top sumdogs in each class will get certificates.At our October assembly the three top sumdog scorers will get prizes as well as being crowned School Sumdog Champions. So keep playing everyone!!

Junior and Senior Infants had a wonderful time this afternoon. We participated in a play workshop. Parents and children got the opportunity to participate in fun games and activities which encourage physical activity. We enjoyed healthy snacks afterwards.

5th and 6th class produced some very impressive art pieces this week. They first blended many colours together to produce a background. We painted on the branches in week two to create a spooky scene.

September 2016 finished on a high note for all the pupils here in Riverstown. Four pupils from sixth  class pupils presented our first assembly of this school year. They were Nòla, James, Callum and Jade. Three awards were presented to all classes. They were writer of the month, gaeilgeoir na mìosa and pupil of the month .

Congratulations to all the children from third and fourth and fifth and sixth who participated in the athletics festival in Sligo. We all had great fun in our races and enjoyed passing the baton from one team member to the next.

A special congratulations to the boys 100m relay team who came first. The team were Owen Elding, Sam Tuohy, Ciaran Kenny and Dylan Mc Kenna.

Congratulations also to the 100m mixed relay team who also came first. The team were Lee Flanagan, Ciara Gallagher, Nòla Eivers and James Foley.

Third and fourth class are learning all about schools long ago. Today we went over to the Folk Park and visited their old school house.
